The Penfield Town Board voted unanimously in favor of the moratorium of golf course re-development Wednesday night, March 23.
Supervisor LaFountain said that on April 6 the Town Board will announce appointments to a task force that will study possible uses of Shadow Pines and Shadow Lake, as well as the associated impacts of those uses.
News outlets reported this week that Shadow Lake has been purchased by Fritz Odenbach (of the family that formerly owned the Dolomite quarry and originally built all three golf courses, Shadow Pines, Shadow Lakes and Greystone) and Gary Haseley, the former CEO of Zeller corporation. It is reported that they intend to maintain Shadow Lake as a golf course and make improvements to it.
The moratorium puts a "time-out" on re-development of golf courses in Penfield, but this only provides temporary protection while the town evaluates its options. Keep in mind that Shadow Pines and Shadow Lake are still zoned "residential" so both are still at risk of future residential development unless the town finds ways to provide permanent protection.
We all need to stay engaged!
